The Shout to elevate arts and culture coverage with Info Challenge support

January 18, 2024 | Stories

An information hub is emerging to notify our community of local art and culture. The brainchild of art enthusiasts Emily Christensen and Teri Mott, The Shout: Wichita Arts & Culture, Loud & Clear will amplify our vibrant arts community and connect us to the talent propelling it forward.

From theater productions and concert performances to independent film reviews, The Shout will provide comprehensive coverage for all art fanatics.

“One of the things that we're really focused on is a calendar so that people can know what's going on, know how they can get there, what performances and other events cost, and what they can expect when they arrive,” Christensen said.

As fellows of the National Critics Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Christensen’s seasoned arts writing expertise paired with Mott’s four decades of media insight will propel their storytelling to offer in-depth analysis of local and regional arts organizations. This includes diving deep into their contributions to the artistic landscape.

Christensen and Mott are committed to serving their community with an inclusive spirit that celebrates diversity in all its forms. The duo wants to ensure that every story from Wichita's creative community is told and every voice is heard.

“The arts industry has a lot to offer our community in terms of economic improvement, in terms of a wonderful place to live, a quality of life and people of all kinds can benefit from the arts–but only if they know about them,” Mott said.

The Shout’s website will soon house information about upcoming shows, concerts, events and films. In the meantime, visit our website to stay up to date with their journey.

The Info Challenge, part of Press Forward Wichita at the Wichita Foundation, is a call for independent news ventures to address information gaps in underserved communities. Three information outlets were selected in late 2023 to receive a $30,000 gift to jumpstart their operations plus a two-year membership to Tiny News Collective to further enhance their resources and network.
