There's phenomenal talent among Wichita-area teens and on June 5, we welcomed Ty Collins as our first summer intern.
In her role as Data Management Intern, she will support our team in archiving, scanning and maintaining a process for documents.
Prior to joining us, Ty completed the Greater Wichita YMCA’s Job Prep course. The 12-week program teaches teens ages 14 to 17 the skills to be ready for employment and connects them with jobs at participating workplaces.
Ty found the right fit at the Wichita Foundation.
"We’re thrilled to equip this dynamic, young woman with first-hand job experience," said WF Director of Philanthropy Meghan Doyle. “Ty is eager to experience what it’s like to work in philanthropy as an operational team member. We know this is the beginning of many contributions she will be making to her future careers and our community.”
Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Wichita and am 15 years old. I have two brothers, one older and one younger, making me the middle child. I also work at Geno's Bar-B-Q in Kechi, Kansas.
What are you looking forward to in your internship?
I hope to learn about the progression of Wichita and how things are improving. I also hope to learn how to work with computers, files and pick up on financing tips.
What does it mean to spark change in Wichita?
I want to see activities happening for different groups of people. There’s always a way for Wichita to grow and change with our community.
