There's a powerful wave of people flexing their storytelling muscles to deliver information in communities. We recognize that these local informers contribute to Wichita's news ecosystem, and have partnered with Tiny News Collective (TNC) to jumpstart nearby information concepts through the Info Challenge.
"This opportunity is open to all – aspiring journalists, vloggers, podcasters or anyone with an idea to inform our community,” said Info Challenge Outreach Coordinator and Mamarazzi Communications owner Ti’Juana Hardwell. “Wichitans should be a part of shaping the issues they care about to enrich our community’s access to diverse, local news.”
The Info Challenge blends TNC's national expertise with local input from Hardwell, an entrepreneur and community advocate, as well as other Wichita residents. This collaboration will amplify the initiative and uncover underrepresented voices in media to create a more inclusive news landscape.
By the end of the year, the initiative will identify and support up to three early-stage or new information startups with a $30,000 grant to propel their project. The cohort will also receive a two-year TNC membership, which unlocks access to resources and networking with local news founders from across the country.
The Info Challenge application deadline is October 20. Learn more about the competition and apply online.
